Simply Basics #1 and #2

To Write A Media Announcement

Writing a Media Announcement is very different than a full blown press release.

The idea of a media announcement is simply alerting members of the press know that you have news to share. When you are telling the world that worth while news is about to be imparted from the location that the announcement will be made from, all you need is a 3-5 line summary of your news that is written like a Hollywood Movie Trailer.

No excitement means you WILL NOT generate buzz.

Subject Line MUST SAY: For Immediate Consideration- Company Name Announces Immediate News Alert

” ABC Realty Admits to Criminal MisConduct”

Media Alert Location that the news will be shared from.
Time of the announcement.
Provide Contact Information for questions prior to the event.

Attach Screenshot, Picture, Logo, Video Sample etc….. to help the media determine whether it is worth sending someone to cover the story.

How To Call A Press Conference

When calling a press conference, do it the morning of the announcement.

1. Email the Media Alert
2. Call the editorial desk to confirm receipt of the emailed Media Alert. Do this by 10am when they are scheduling the days lineup.
3. Ask if they will be covering the event.
4. Set up the space well in advance and hire a conference room if need be. Expecting people to cram into your office will have then simply walk out.

Do not be surprised if they ask for a quick sound bite or interview right then and there. This is very common with Radio Stations.

Be sure to tell the media whether it is a Simple Statement being made or if there will be a Q&A Session.
