Making The List……A Must For Current Professionals

The world of business has changed so drastically in the past 10 years. I mean, look at me. I have a degree in marketing and most of the time I am so grateful that I have consistently reeducated myself in order to stay on top of my game. Because, let’s face it, what I learned in college over 20 years ago DOES NOT APPLY! Even the basic principals are changing before our very eyes.

As a professional (in ANY industry) it has become crucial to manage your reputation at a very public level. Gone are the days of recommendations and paper resumes. It is expected now to have a digital portfolio that spans your entire career. What most people still fail to realize is that, whether they like it or not, they are now considered a brand. So anyone that is not a brand expert needs to start learning about brand management.

Besides watching what you say and post to social media (employers commonly check out your social profiles), it has become extremely necessary to pay attention to what your peers say about you. And one of the best ways to know if you are viewed in a positive light is to be added to a Twitter list of recommended followers/experts/specialists.

Since before Twitter even gave users the capability of creating lists, I have been fortunate to be named to some very influential lists. In 2011 I was named to the Top 100 Most Influential People in Real Estate Online. And ever since I have been named as an expert in marketing, PR, branding, Advertising and Social Media. The latest was a list from http://EVANCARMICHAEL.COM naming me, @SimplisticPro #86, as a Top Branding Expert to follower.

So, when you get named to a list, be sure to add that link to your resume or web page and thank the creator for having such confidence in you.
